Baptism is a command of Jesus Christ for every Christian. It is the public display of the inward decision that a person has made to follow Jesus.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF BAPTISM?

  • It illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection. “For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.” (Colossians 2:12closeColossians 2:12 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. (ESV) 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. (ESV) )

  • It illustrates my new life as a Christian. “By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead: so also we may live a new life!” (Romans 6:4closeRomans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
